As we all know, summer season is here and the killing temperature and intense UV sun rays are already affecting our skin texture by stealing the glow from our skin resulting in rough, dull and tanned skin. So today, I am sharing some Summer Skin Care to take care of that beautiful skin.

Summer Skin Care Tips

SUNSCREEN:

Sunscreens help to protect the skin from sunburn, early skin aging and skin cancer. Use a good SPF 30 or higher sunscreen to protect the skin damage from harmful UV rays. Sunscreens could be very sticky or heavy on skin specially for oily skin type, so instead of avoiding sunscreens, it is better to use a water based sunscreen. Water based products are not sticky and do not feel heavy on skin.

When to apply sunscreen? Atleast 15-20 minutes before stepping out in the sun so that the sunscreen can be absorbed and settled down in the skin.

EXFOLIATE:

Exfoliation is important in all the seasons, specially in summers. Exfoliation cleanses the pores and removes any extra dirt and make up particles from the skin. Try to exfoliate your skin at-least weekly with a good scrub. There are many scrubs available in market according to different skin types and skin needs.

You can also make natural, chemical free homemade scrubs. The best, mom’s recommended and mostly used homemade scrub is “UBTAN” made with wheat bran (choker), gram flour (besan), curd or cream of milk (malai), juice from half a lemon and a pinch of turmeric (haldi). After scrubbing, use of a good toner and moisturizer is plus plus!!

FACE PACK/MASK:

Face packs and Face masks both helps to relax, deep cleanse, stimulate blood circulation and provide radiant glow with more refreshed appearance. Face packs and Face masks both are used for same functions, they just differ in nature. Face packs are thin layered packs used to tone and cleanse the skin by removing impurities from the skin and Face masks are thick masks which cleanse, moisturize and removes dead skin (mostly clay masks and peel-off masks comes under this category). You can use a face pack/mask once a week, or more than that depending on skin type and skin care concerns.

ICE-COLD WATER:

We all love to drink cold water or use ice cubes in our summer drinks. But do you know, these ice cubes are even more beneficial for the skin? Yes, Ice-cold water/ice cubes helps in tightening up of pores, firmness of skin and thus prevents anti-aging.

Just imagine that cooling and soothing effect on the skin after washing your face with cold water. In this bloody hot weather, it’ll just feel like Heaven! Isn’t it? Either you can use ice-cold water to wash off your everyday face wash or after washing your face with face wash and normal water, you can rub an ice cube on your face and eyes. This will not only give soothing effect on the skin but will also improve the skin texture. Quick Tip : Use of ice-cold water/ice cubes before makeup in summers also results in makeup to stay longer.

You can also DIY and use different skin beneficial fruits in your ice cubes. Yes, use cucumber, neem water, lemon juice and honey etc. instead of plain water to fill your ice trays and freeze them. Now you have ice cubes even more beneficial for your skin. 🙂

STAY HYDRATED:

Obviously, being hydrated is most important. Drinking adequate amount of water is equally important in Winters, however, in Summers other drinks and foods should also be taken to provide the nourishment and hydration to the body. Because your body loses water through breathing, sweating, and digestion, it’s important to re hydrate yourself by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water.

Some quick hydrating ideas include; fruits (melons, pineapple, peaches, cucumbers, strawberry are High Water Content Fruits), juices, coconut water, DIY hydrating infused water etc.
